Marine Plumbing Services Work

If the plumbing goes out of your vessel, it can make for an uncomfortable cruise.

  • Seacocks- thru hulls – hoses replacement
  • Strainers:  cleaning – replacement
  • Bilge pump switches replacement

Seacocks – are valves on the hull of a boat or a ship, that permits water to flow into the vessel, such as for cooling an engine or for a salt water faucet, or out of the boat, for a sink drain or a toilet.

Thru-Hull Fittings – A through-hull fitting is a device installed through the boat hull, such as for a water inlet or a drain.  It is a passive device whose function is simply to let water flow in or out and to provide a point of attachment for the internal piping. Through-hull fittings may be fabricated of metal or plastic.

Metal through-hulls, especially for fittings that protrude beyond the surface of the hull, are more resistant to damage caused by scraping against a piling or a submerged object. The downside is that virtually all metals are susceptible to corrosion or galvanic action.

Plastics are inherently noncorrosive and non-conductive but may degrade after long-term exposure to ultra-violet (UV) light.

Hose Replacements – There is no all-purpose hose for a boat there are hoses for different uses, hose that can withstand engine exhaust, bring fresh water to the galley or shower, safely transport gasoline to the carburetor, engine hoses, drain the cockpit, and flush the head.

Fuel Hose – Hoses that carry gasoline must be USCG approved and are marked with J 1527 A1, A2, B1, and B2, as well as with the manufacturing date. Gasoline hoses are usually made of rubber compounds.

Bilge Hose – this type of hose needs to be extremely flexible,  resistant to attack from chemicals, and it needs smooth internal surfaces to allow water to flow freely.

Potable Water Hose – Hoses that carry drinking water have to be made of FDA approved nontoxic materials (stamped on the hose) so that chemicals from the hose don’t leach into the water.

Holding Tank Hose – The best sanitation hoses are thick-walled and smooth inside. Reinforced PVC is a good choice, but it should be made specifically for sanitation use.

Thru-Hull Hose – an extension of a hole in your boat and are connected to an above or below-waterline fitting. They must be strong and long lasting.

Exhaust Hose – Exhaust hose is one of the most critical hoses on a boat. A leaking hose can flood a boat with cooling water, and it can also release deadly carbon monoxide, which is why the standards call for double-clamping of all exhaust hose connections.
